My site evaluation this month was with Professor Maida. For this site evaluation professor Maida first started with testing us on our drug cards, but compared to our last visit, professor Maida tested our classmates’ cards which was a very different experience but we all seemed to do well on. For my first site visit, I presented a patient that came in with rectal bleeding for the past day. As I presented, professor maida would pause throughout the HPI and ask us our ddx and pertinent positive questions or negatives to ask that may be beneficial to ask the patient. Professor Maida also taught us the significance of asking a patient’s diet and BMI when it comes to one of our ddx which was a fissure. He stated that a poor diet and lack of exercise is a very common reason children may be constipated and then in turn develop a fissure.
Overall my experience with professor maida for these site visits went very well. Professor Maida gave us very good advice on taking H&P from the pediatric population and how it may be different from regular H&Ps. Overall, I think his style of testing us on each others H&Ps went very well as we were able to learn from one another.
